The Trinamool Congress has alleged that one of its women MPs who was part of a party delegation seeking to go to Hathras in Uttar Pradesh was molested by UP Police on Friday while being denied entry.

"Lok Sabha MP Pratima Mandal manhandled, touched inappropriately by male officers of UP Police," said the official statement of TMC.

The Trinamool emphasised Pratima was also a representative of the scheduled caste community of West Bengal.

She was stopped from meeting the Hathras gang-rape victim's family and manhandled by male officers of the Uttar Pradesh Police.

"When we were headed to meet the dalit victim's family in Hathras to express our solidarity, Yogi government's police stopped us. I am an MP, and a woman from the scheduled caste community. I asked, why wasn't I allowed to enter? I was touched inappropriately by a male officer of the Uttar Pradesh Police," said Pratima.

She alleged that UP Police has violated the respect of a dalit woman of Bengal on Friday.

"Imagine the irony, it's October 2 today, Mahatma Gandhi's birthday. On a day like this, if the Yogi government's police force can behave so inappropriately with an MP, imagine how they behave with the women of the state and the general public," said the MP from South 24 parganas.
