Siddaramaiah's son MLA Yathindra tests COVID-19 positive

Former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah's son and Varuna MLA Dr. Yathindra tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday. He has been admitted to Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru, where his father is also recuperating from the disease.

On August 2, Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and his daughter had tested positive, but were asymptomatic. However, following the advice of doctors, they were admitted to Manipal Hospital. The following day, leader of opposition Siddaramaiah too tested positive and was hospitalised as he was running high fever. However, the two leaders are said to be stable now.

While Yathindra joins a long list of legislators in Karnataka who have tested positive for the disease, including three of Yediyurappa's cabinet colleague. Tourism Minister C.T. Ravi, who was infected in July has recovered, while Agriculture Minister B.C. Patil and Cooperation Minister S.T. Somashekhar are under home quarantine.

MLAs Dr Ajay Singh (Jewargi), Prasad Abbayya (Hubli-Dharwad East), Mahantesh Koujalgi (Bailhongal), and Rajshekhar Patil (Humnabad) had tested positive in July. While Harish Poonja (Belthangady), Naganagouda Kandkur (Gurmitkal) and G.T. Devegowda (Chamundeshwari) tested positive recently.

Karnataka has reported a total number of 1.58 lakh COVID-19 cases (80,281 recoveries) and 2,897 deaths since March 2020.
