Son of a farmer and an under training IRS officer, Sonepat resident Pradeep Singh has topped the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) civil services results declared on Tuesday. A computer engineer, Pradeep cracked the exam in his fourth attempt. Pradeep was selected as an Income Tax inspector in 2015 and served there for almost four years before making it to IRS in 2018. He is currently undergoing training at National Academy of Customs, Excise and Narcotics in Faridabad, Haryana.

“The feeling is yet to seep in and this probably is the happiest moment for me. I was confident but scoring 1st rank has come as a surprise. The journey has been tiring but the result has justified every bit of it. The best part is the happiness in my father's eyes who was the biggest motivation and for me,” Pradeep told THE WEEK.

Pradeep wants to work in the education sector as he feels education is a sure shot way of influencing and changing every single segment around us. “If as a bureaucrat I manage to trickle down every bit of benefits of government schemes to people at the grass root level, we can speed up the development in all other sectors at a considerable rate. I wish to provide my services in this sector”, added Pradeep.

Meanwhile, a celebration has broken out in his native village Tewri and his father Sukhbir Singh, a former Sarpanch, is beyond himself. “Living in this quaint village this was the dream I saw with open eyes and my son has toiled for years to make it come true. What I am feeling right now cannot be summed up as mere happiness,” said Sukhbir Singh.
