Shortly after announcing that Sachin Pilot had been removed as deputy chief minister of Rajasthan and the state party unit chief, the Congress on Tuesday accused him and his loyalist MLAs of conspiring with the BJP to try and topple the government in the state.

“It is sad that Pilot and other MLAs got involved in the BJP's conspiracy to topple the Congress government in the state. This is not acceptable. It is with a very sad heart that the Congress party has taken some decisions,” AICC Communications in charge Randeep Surjewala told reporters after the CLP meeting got over.

Surjewala said that the party gave Pilot full opportunity to come and resolve differences. Surjewala had on Tuesday said that the doors of the party were always open for Pilot to come and discuss his concerns.

“The 8 crore people of Rajasthan are familiar with the developments that took place in the last 72 hours. The BJP, as part of a conspiracy, tried to topple a government chosen by the brave people of Rajasthan,” Surjewala said. He also mentioned the IT and ED raids conducted on confidants of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday to claim a BJP hand in the developments.

Party sources said the central leadership reached out to Pilot and made all efforts to assuage his concerns after he landed in Delhi with his loyalist MLAs. Efforts were made to reach a compromise, but the young leader continued to be defiant, they said.
