A Bengaluru court refused to grant bail to Amulya Leona, the 19-year-old college student facing sedition charges for raising the slogan "Pakistan Zindabad" at an event in the city in February.

The city civil and sessions court denied bail to Leona saying there are chances of the petitioner absconding if granted bail.

Leona had raised the pro-Pakistan slogan at an event held to protest the Citizenship Amendment Act, in which All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi was also present.

“The points which have been raised by the petitioner are to be considered at the time of the full-fledged trial. If the petitioner is granted bail, she may abscond. Therefore, the bail petition of the petitioner is liable to be rejected," 60th additional city civil and sessions judge Vidyadhar Shirahatti said while refusing to grant bail to the young activist, according to a The New Indian Express report.

The judge also observed that the probe into the matter hasn't been completed and the chargesheet hasn't yet been filed. Further, the judge said if granted bail, Leona might participate in similar events which would affect the peace at large, according to media reports.

At the event held on February 20, the youngster had asked people to shout with her "Pakistan Zindabad" thrice after the organisers of the event under the banner of 'Save Constitution' invited her to address the gathering soon after Owaisi came on the stage. A baffled Owaisi rushed to snatch the mike from her and was joined by others who tried to remove her from the stage.

The AIMIM chief had denounced her action of raising the pro-Pakistan slogan and asserted "We are for India". Owaisi said he did not agree with the girl, whom he described as a "so-called liberal" and had asked all liberals to refrain from any events involving Muslims.
