'Dhaman-1', a low-cost ventilator developed by a Rajkot-based company in Gujarat, was tested successfully on a COVID-19 patient in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

The ventilator, made by Jyoti CNC just in a span of 10 days, was tested in the presence of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and his deputy Nitin Patel when they visited the Civil Hospital.

Rupani remarked that Gujarat would become a path-breaking leader in the world to fight against the deadly disease.

While normal cost of a ventilator is around Rs 6 lakh, 'Dhaman-1' has been made at a cost of less than Rs 1 lakh.

Prakram Jadeja, CEO of Jyoti CNC, said that the company would give first 1,000 units to the Gujarat government free of cost as part of its corporate social responsibility. He said that after the demand of Gujarat is met with, ventilators will also be made for Maharashtra.

Jadeja said that a team of 150 persons led by Rajendra Parmar, who had stayed in the USA, made it possible within 10 days. The parts were acquired from 26 companies and then assembled. He said that the company has the capacity to make 10 ventilators per day.

Plans are afoot to develop higher versions of 'Dhaman-1'.
