West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday wrote humanity was the "worst sufferer"in the recent violence in Delhi.

In a poem titled Hell on her Facebook handle, Mamata Banerjee asked "Where are we? Where are we going? From heaven to hell!..."

Mamata added there has been "so much bloodshed" and "so many deaths" that a "Holi of blood" had arrived before the "Holi of colours".

Mamata added a "A peaceful country turned violent" and wondered whether "is it the end of democracy".

Mamata concluded the poem by saying "The sacred land turns into a hell."

Interestingly, the poem by Mamata comes amid criticism of the Trinamool Congress over its perceived silence on the Delhi violence.

The Trinamool Congress leadership has refrained from making strong statements about the violence.

Senior TMC leaders, who spoke to PTI on condition of anonymity, said they have been asked not to make "any out-of-turn statement on the issue without prior permission of the party".

Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday expressed concerns over the incidents of arson and violence and appealed to people to maintain calm and peace.

The opposition CPI(M) and Congress took a dig at Mamata Banerjee's party and said it was part of a "tacit understanding between the BJP and the TMC". "When all the political parties are demanding Amit Shah's resignation, the TMC is maintaining a stoic silence," CPI(M) legislative party leader Sujan Chakraborty said.

On Wednesday, Mamata Banerjee was in Puri, Odisha, to visit the Lord Jagannath temple. Alluding to the Delhi violence, Mamata Banerjee told reporters "India is known for peace and harmony. We want peace, not bloodshed.”
