A 16-year-old girl, who was allegedly sexually assaulted and set ablaze in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh, succumbed to injuries on Saturday. The incident had taken place on On November 21.
Sambhal ASP Alok Jaiswal said, "Incident happened on November 21 in Nakhasa. Victim was then burnt using kerosene oil. She was transferred to Safdurjung Hospital, Delhi where she died after 9 days of treatment. Matter sent to fast track court," according to news agency ANI.
According to media reports, the teenager was sexually assaulted by one of her neighbours who barged into her house when her parents were away. He set her ablaze after she threatened to file a police complaint over the incident.

The girl was referred to a hospital in Lucknow as her condition turned critical. Later, she was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.
The news of the minor girl's death comes even as there is widespread protests over the rape and murder of a woman veterinary doctor in Telangana. The charred body of the 27-year-old woman found under a culvert on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru national highway. The victim, who worked in a state-run hospital, was on her way home late on Wednesday when she was allegedly abducted, raped and burnt alive by unidentified persons.
