Marius Borg Hoiby, the eldest son of Norway’s Crown Princess mette marit has been sentanced to four years in prison on Monday after being convicted of rape and other crimes.
Hoiby became part of the royal family at age 4 after his mother married Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon in 2001
On Monday, he was found guilty of two of four charges of rape against him. He was acquitted of the other two. He was also sentenced to a two-year retraining order against one of his victims. He can appeal the verdict.
One of the victims, the only one who was named publicly, was his former girlfriend, Nora Haukland. He was convicted of having assaulted her and causing serious bodily harm to another partner. He was cleared off thwo other charges.
Hoiby faced a total of 40 charges. Apart from the four charges of rape, the other include assault, several breaches of restraining orders, as well as drug and driving offences.
He had pleaded not guilty to the rape charge while admitting to having committed a lesser offence.
All of the rape charges involved four women who all alleged that they were sleeping or heavily incapacitated when they were assaulted between the years 2018 and 2014.
During the trial its was revealed that Hoiby had a drug addiction and had self-made videos of his sexual encounters.
Prosecutors had called for Hoidby to be given seven years and seven months in prison. His defence lawyer had asked be be given a lesser term of 18 months.
The judgment also comes amid Crown Princess Mette-Marit apologising for her contact with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, even after his conviction in 2008.
Meanwhile, Mette Marit is also going through severe health conditions with pulmonary fibrosis. She is currently placed on a lung transplant.
