A day after the charred body of a woman doctor was found on the outskirts of Hyderabad, body of another woman was recovered in the same locality in similar circumstances on Friday, sending shock waves across the city.
Police said the burnt body of the second woman was found a few kilometres away from where the veterinarian's body was recovered in a charred state on Thursday. Police are examining whether both the incidents are connected.
"The body was found in an open area on the outskirts of Shamshabad. It is being moved to a government hospital for autopsy, and a case is being registered," Cyberabad Commissioner of Police V.C. Sajjanagar told ANI. Police also suspect this could be a case of suicide.
On Thursday, the charred body of the 27-year-old veterinarian was found near a culvert on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru national highway. The victim, who worked in a state-run hospital, was on her way home late on Wednesday when she was allegedly abducted, raped and burnt alive by unidentified persons.
Police said four people have been arrested in connection with the incident, which has sparked a national outrage, prompting the Union Home Ministry to issue an advisory to state governments to take precautionary steps to prevent crimes against women.
