Sunday was a very special day for 74-year-old Mangayamma and her 80-year-old husband Raja Rao who have become the world’s oldest new parents. They took their twins home from a private hospital in Guntur. But the day was also harrowing for the hospital that performed the IVF procedure on the senior citizen. It was flooded with calls from local reporters who wanted to know if the rumours they heard were true.

Throughout Saturday and Sunday, social media was abuzz with rumours that Raja Rao had suffered a massive heart attack and he was also admitted in the same hospital. Later, a few websites published news that Mangayamma was also in a critical condition and she was being operated upon by the doctors.

Uma Shankar, a doctor at the hospital, rubbished these reports and said both the parents remained healthy.

According to hospital authorities, the parents and their twins walked out of hospital in an absolutely healthy condition.

“Since this is a very unique operation, we decided to keep them under observation. The mother and the twins were taken care of and we also made sure they didn't catch any infections. That is the reason why they were discharged after more than 10 days,” said one of the hospital staff members.

The father, Raja Rao, was slightly unwell and he was given some medicines, said the staff members, and added it had nothing to do with the procedure.

The relatives have informed the authorities that they will look after the twins and help the elderly couple.
