At least 11 people drowned after the boat they were using for immersion of a Ganesha idol capsized in the Khatlapura Ghat in Bhopal in the wee hours of Friday. At least four people are missing.
The accident happened when two boats that were joined together to hold the Ganesha idol could not hold its weight. According to media reports, none of the people on board the boat that capsized wore life jackets.
The bodies of the 11 victims were recovered even as rescue operations were continuing. Six people were rescued.

Madhya Pradesh Law Minister P.C. Sharma said a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each would be given to the next of kin of the deceased. He added that an investigation will be conducted into the accident.
