Army Chief in Srinagar to review law and order
Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat will visit Srinagar on Friday, for the first time since Article 370 was abrogated. General Rawat will be in the Kashmir valley and take stock of the army's preparedness to deal with any law and order situation in the region in the wake of threat of escalation between India and Pakistan.
Technical meeting on opening of Kartarpur Corridor
Pakistan and India will hold a technical meeting on Friday regarding the opening of the Kartarpur Corridor, connecting Darbar Sahib in Pakistan's Kartarpur with Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur district. The corridor facilitate visa-free movement of Indian Sikh pilgrims, who will have to just obtain a permit to visit Kartarpur Sahib, which was established in 1522 by Sikh faith founder Guru Nanak Dev.
Supreme Court reserves order on Chidambaram's plea
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) told the Supreme Court on Thursday that former minister P Chidambaram's custodial interrogation of is needed in the INX Media money laundering case as he is a man with "resources, intelligence and wherewithal" even as the former finance minister asserted that his right to liberty cannot be curtailed by arresting him without any valid reason.
The bench reserved order for September 5 on Chidambaram's plea challenging the Delhi High Court's August 20 verdict denying him anticipatory bail plea in the INX Media money laundering case.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi would inaugurate The Manorama News Conclave from New Delhi via video-conferencing. Judge says he knew 'War and Peace' was a literary classic
The Bombay High Court on Thursday said it knew that Leo Tolstoy's 'War and Peace' was a literary classic and that it didn't mean to suggest that all the books seized by Pune police in the Elgar Parishad-Koregaon Bhima case were incriminating.
The observation by Justice Sarang Kotwal came a day after media reports said he asked accused Vernon Gonsalves to explain why he kept "objectionable material" like a copy of "War and Peace" at his home.
The purported remarks also stirred up thousands of reactions on Twitter. The hashtag #WarAndPeace has been trending on the social media platform during the day.
