Reliance Group chairman Mukesh Ambani on Thursday showered praise upon Union Home Minister Amit Shah, calling him an 'Iron Man' and a 'true karmayogi'.

Ambani was speaking at the annual convocation of Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) in Gandhinagar. He is the president of the PDPU. Shah, along with Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and his cabinet colleagues, graced the occasion.

The business tycoon said he was particularly honoured by the presence of Shah. “Amitbhai, you are a true karmayogi. You are an Iron Man,” said Ambani. “Your energy and focus always amazes me. Gujarat and now India are blessed to have an inspiring leader like you,” he added.

The title of 'Iron Man' is often used for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a 182 feet tall statue of Patel at Kevadia in Gujarat. Called the 'Statue of Unity', it is the world's tallest statue.

Ambani heaped praise on Modi as well. He said whenever he visited Gujarat, his sense of pride in his home state went up a notch higher. “Gujarat, its achievements, and its institutions have become benchmarks of excellence for the rest of the nation.

He added that Modi had planted the seeds of numerous transformative institutions and initiatives in Gujarat. It was Modi's farsightedness that inspired all of us to establish and nurture the PDPU, remarked Ambani.

The RIL chairman told the graduating students to never lower the barrier of their ambitions and never be hesitant to dream big. He also advised them never to slacken their efforts to be better each day and to become a better human being.

Ambani said India is at the doorstep of a historic opportunity. He mentioned about Modi setting the goal of making India a USD $ 5 trillion economy by 2024. In other words, nearly doubling the size of the national economy in the next five years.

If India could add nearly USD 1 trillion in the past five years, can we not add USD 2 trillion in the next five years, he asked, adding “yes, India can and will”.

Speaking on the occasion, Shah narrated efforts of the NDA government to improve India's economy. He also mentioned how India's inflation had dropped from 9 per cent to 3 per cent.
