An Army soldier was killed after Pakistani troops resorted to ceasefire violation and shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Tuesday afternoon. The Indian Army retaliated “strongly and effectively” killing two Pakistani soldiers.

This is the third consecutive day that Pakistan troops have violated ceasefire along the LoC. On Tuesday Pakistan also violated the ceasefire in Pharkian and Sunderbani sectors around 1 pm.

Reports said for the second time after the 2003 ceasefire agreement, Indian and Pakistani troops  exchanged heavy artillery fire. Artillery guns were used earlier by the troops in 2017 in Poonch and Rajaouri sectors.

"In the exchange of fire, Naik Krishan Lal attained martyrdom. Naik Krishan Lal, aged 34 years belonged to Village Ghagriyal, Post Office - Khour, Tehsil - Akhnoor, District - Jammu, J&K and is survived by his wife, Smt Shashi Devi. Naik Krishan Lal was a brave, highly motivated and sincere soldier. The Nation will always remain indebted to him for the supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty," the army said in a statement.
