The Pakistan Navy offered humanitarian assistance to an Indian offshore tug and supply vessel after they received a distress call off the coast of Mumbai in the Arabian Sea on Monday.
The Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) assisted over half a dozen sailors who were struck aboard the vessel, Dawn reported, citing security sources.
The PMSA conducted a rescue and support operation for the crew, which consisted of six Indian and an Indonesian national. The operation came after the Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centre in Mumbai contacted Pakistani authorities and requested assistance.
The MV Gautam reportedly suffered from a technical fault when it was heading to India from Oman “As soon as the emergency information was received, the Pakistan Navy dispatched the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency's ship 'Kashmir' for rescue operations,” security sources said.
The assistance included food, medical aid and technical support.
The Navy concluded that the operation was carried out successfully
The incident has garnered attention as relations between the neighbours remain tense after Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack last year.
Last month, the Pakistan Navy carried out an operation in the Arabian Sea to rescue and evacuate 18 crew members of a merchant vessel after they made a distress call off the Pakistan coast.
