The mutilated body of a 3-year-old was found in a garbage dump in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh, with an initial probe indicating that the killing was a fallout of a monetary dispute, police said Thursday.  Two persons have been arrested in connection with the crime, and five police officers suspended for lapse of duty. Two persons, Zahid and Aslam, were arrested on the basis of a complaint by the victim's father. "Post-mortem examination has not found any sign of sexual assault. The report confirmed death due to strangulation," PTI quoted a police officer. In view of the gravity of the crime, proceedings have begun to charge the duo under the stringent National Security Act.

Several social media handles claimed that the minor was raped, her eyes were gouged out, and acid poured on her face. Why isn't the outrage proportional to that of the similar Kathua case, was a common refrain. The Aligarh police tweeted out a statement debunking the claims that the minor was sexually assaulted.

When AltNews contacted Akash Kulhary, the SSP of Aligarh, he said, “The post-mortem report mentions death by strangulation as the cause. The claims circulating on social media that the victim’s eyes were gouged out and her arm amputated, are also false. Also, the claim that acid was poured on her body, is untrue. No such thing has occurred. The post-mortem report has been shared with the family of the victim.”

The incident also resulted in an outpouring of grief on social media, with celebrities weighing in on the same. "The horrible, barbaric rape, murder of a 3 year old In Aligarh, the criminals, who gouged her eyes, mutilated her body, depraved evil, inhuman & barbaric. Must Hang. The law must act fast!" tweeted Raveena Tandon.
