Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Congress stating that the party had branded the Hindu community as terrorist and its leadership was now running to safe seats where the minority community is in majority.

Addressing a huge rally at the ground of Swavalambi Vidyalaya in Wardha, Modi said that the people knew very well as to who introduced the word Hindu terror. “ Is there a single instance in History of Hindu terror? Who coined this term? Sushilkumar Shinde when he was home minister; will you forgive Congress for this sin ? The community which has been branded as terrorists has now woken up and that is why you have Congress leaders going to constituencies where majority is in minority,” he said in a veiled reference to Congress president Rahul Gandhi's candidature from Wayanad in Kerala.

He also alleged that the Congress and the NCP always played the game of vote bank politics. “There were riots in Mumbai's Azad Maidan and the then Congress-NCP government had taken a decision not to take action against the rioters. This is the vote bank politics they always play,” stated Modi.

He also claimed that the Congress and its allies have reached status of heroes in Pakistan because they always act in a way that helps Pakistan. “When the entire world was with us after the military action in the aftermath of terrorist attacks (in Uri and Pulwama), these people were demanding proof of the strikes done by our soldiers,” said Modi.  He asked people who they supported—those who demanded Saboot (proof) or Bharat Ke Sapoot (heroes) who carried out the action against terrorists.

Blaming the Congress for corruption, he said , corruption was a gift given by the Congress to India during its rule. “These are the people who made sure that the poor remain poor so that schemes can be launched in the name of poverty reduction and the funds can be used for personal benefits. On the other hand, our government is working honestly to complete various projects that will benefit people,” claimed Modi.

In his speech Modi also criticised NCP chief Sharad Pawar stating that when farmers in Maval (near Pune) were agitating for better prices for their crops, Pawar family had made sure that police opened fire on them.

The problem with Pawar, Modi said, was that he was loosing his grip over his party. “Pawar saab does not take any decision without thinking thoroughly about pros and cons. A month ago he said that he wanted to contest elections. Then subsequently he said he does not want to. A seasoned politician like Pawar withdrew from the race because he knew which way the wind was blowing,” said Modi hinting that Pawar had sensed victory of the NDA in the elections.

Likening Congress-NCP alliance to Kumbhkarna (of the Ramayana), Modi said that when they were in power they used to sleep for months and would wake up only to engage in corruption. “If Congress is abusing me, I will wear it as an ornament. Whatever I could do for Maharashtra and for the nation was all thanks to you (people), for you gave me the opportunity to serve you,” said Modi.

On the occasion, Modi also congratulated space scientists on the launch of PSLV C45 which placed EMISAT and 28 foreign satellites in the orbit on Monday. “Unlike earlier launches when only a handful of people could witness the launch, hundreds of people were eyewitness to the launch of the PSLV,” said Modi.
