Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the terror attack on CRPF personnel in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, saying the “sacrifices of our brave security personnel shall not go in vain”.

“Attack on CRPF personnel in Pulwama is despicable. I strongly condemn this dastardly attack. The sacrifices of our brave security personnel shall not go in vain. The entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the families of the brave martyrs. May the injured recover quickly,” Modi said in a tweet.

“Spoke to Home Minister Rajnath Singh Ji and other top officials regarding the situation in the wake of the attack in Pulwama,” he said in another tweet.

Dozens of CRPF jawans were killed after a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden car into the bus they were travelling in at Lethpora, Pulwama in south Kashmir.

According to sources the bomber struck around 3.15 pm. He was driving a Mahindra Scorpio packed with explosives.

The JeM claimed responsibility for the attack and identified the suicide bomber (fidayeen) as Adil Ahmad from Kakapora in Pulwama, who had joined the JeM in 2018.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik and took stock of the situation.

He also cancelled all his political engagements in Bihar and is likely to visit Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
