In a massive show of opposition unity, amidst chants of vedic hymns MPCC chief Kamal Nath today took oath as 18th politician and 28th chief minister of MP in presence of Congress president Rahul Gandhi and many UPA leaders.
The oath was administered by Governor Anandiben Patel who also holds additional charge of Chhattisgarh. The ceremony was conducted by Chief Secretary, BP Singh.
Fore-fronting a show of strength among UPA partners, Kamal Nath took the chief minister's oath alone while rest of his cabinet will be sworn in later. The swearing in ceremony was attended by scores of Hindu sadhus. Shankaracharya Swarooopanand's representative and leaders of various religions were present on the dais to bless the new chief minister.
Hoardings of Lord Hanuman all over the area was a reflection of Kamal Nath being bhakt of the deity.
In a specially made enclosure in an area of six acres, thousands of Congress workers witnessed the party's return in power after a gap of 15 years.
Six days after the Assembly results, Congress has planned to make the swearing in ceremony a mega-event to showcase the unity of opposition against the Modi government.
The ceremony was attended by former PM Manamohan Singh, NCP leader Sharad Pawar, Prafulla Patel, TDP leader and Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu, JD leader and former PM HD Devegowda, Karnataka CM HD Kumarswamy, DMK leader Stalin, Tejaswi Yadav of RJD, Trinamool Congress leader Dinesh Trivedi, former Jammu and Kashmir CM Farooq Abdullah, Janata Dal leader Sharad Yadav, JMM Leader and former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren.
Also in attendence were Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, deputy CM Sachin Pilot, Pudduchery CM Narayan Swamy, Punjab CM Navjot Singh Sidhu, leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Khadge, former union minister Mohsina Kidwai, Anand Sharma and Raj Babbar.
The ceremony also had the presence of three former Chief Ministers of BJP led by previous Shivraj Singh, Babulal Gour, Kailash Joshi and former Congress CM Digvijaya Singh. Former Haryana CM Bhupender Singh Hudda, former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah were also present.
