Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar's newly inducted ministers -- who joined the Cabinet on August 3-- have finally been allocated portfolios. It is reported that the Congress high command carefully considered the matter before assigning responsibilities to the new ministers amidst heavy lobbying and factionalism.

Minister K. H. Muniyappa reportedly witnessed his portfolio being changed. Initially tasked to handle the Food and Civil Supplies portfolio, he was later given the Social Welfare Department, local media report said. Rizwan Arshad has been named the Civil Supplies minister.

The Karnataka Legislative Assembly's Monsoon Session is scheduled from tomorrow until August 27. The delay in allocating portfolios to the new ministers had drawn strong criticism from the Opposition.

Shivakumar had earlier met AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and party General Secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal in the national capital and held discussions. Discussions are also likely to have taken place about disgruntlement among the legislators, especially the seniors, whose ministerial aspirations could not be fulfilled during the cabinet expansion.

"I discussed (with the high command) last evening and have come (from Delhi)," Shivakumar had reportedly told reporters here on Monday, while indicating that portfolio allocations are to be "cleared" at the earliest.
