Abducted civilian killed in Shopian; militants kidnap two more people

Militants on Saturday shot dead one of the three civilians abducted from Sadipora in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on suspicion of being informers for the security forces. The other two were released.

On Saturday evening, the militants abducted two other civilians, identified as Hakib Javed Ganie of Meenender and Ishfaq Ahmad of Pudsoo.

The three civilians abducted earlier were identified as Shahid Ahmad Ganie, Farooq Ahmad, both residents of Saidpora Payeen, and Huzaif Ahmad Kutay of Manzgam, who was shot dead. The three were abducted 36 hours after Nadeem Manzoor, a civilian from Pulwama, was shot dead by militants.

Police said they found the body of a civilian at Hermain in Shopian and identified him as Huzaif Ashraf Kutay (19) alias Raja Kandur. They said the body has been handed over to the family after the completion of medico-legal formalities.

A case under relevant sections of has been registered and investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, the militants released a video in which Kutay is heard saying he gave a missed call to the Army to inform them about the presence of militants in the area where he had his friend had gone for a smoke. The Army cordoned off the village and killed two Hizbul Mujahideen militants.

In an audio message, Hizbul said it released the confessional statement of Kutay in response to the discussion on social media about his murder. The militant outfit asked the people not to discuss the movement of militants to even their close friends. The Hizbul also warned that it will act against those who contest the panchayat elections.
