A college girl in Jalpaiguri of West Bengal filed a complaint with the police on Tuesday about an unknown caller who allegedly tried to lure her into participating in 'Momo game' challenge, a disturbing viral game.

The girl, in her complaint, said she had posted on social media that she wished to take her own life after she had a fight with her mother.

Soon, the girl received a Whatsapp message from an unknown number, allegedly inviting her to take the Momo game challenge. When she sought to know the sender's identity, the person revealed it verbally, she claimed.

The girl claimed that she informed her elder brother about the entire incident as she was afraid. He warned her against participating in the game.

An investigation has been launched, the police said.

Momo game is reportedly circulated through WhatsApp. According to a report that appeared in The Sun, the game began on Facebook where members were "challenged" to get in touch with an unknown number. If a person decides to communicate with this unknown entity, he or she is greeted with a series of disturbing images and videos. The participant is then coerced into following the orders given by the person at the other end. If he/she refuses to follow orders, the user would be bombarded with violent images.

Those who have had interaction with the 'Momo' number claimed that they were sent violent and disturbing images at night and threats of unknown person appearing before them when they are asleep and cursing them. There have also been claims of receiving terrifying phone calls which consisted solely of screams and creepy noises.
