Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with party chief Amit Shah and several chief ministers had walked the whole distance from BJP office to cremation ground at Smriti Sthal as a mark of respect, on Friday. Now, for immersion of ashes in Ganga in Haridwar, Shah, along with Home Minister Rajnath Singh, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat will accompany Vajpayee's immediate family members. Hindu saints will also be present on the occasion to complete the last rites of the leader.
On Monday, an all-party condolence meeting has been organised at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Delhi. Modi will be present at the meeting for which invites have gone to leaders of all the major political parties.
On August 23, another commemoration meeting will held in Lucknow where Rajnath Singh, along with Vajpayee's family members and other state leaders, will be present. On the same day the ashes will be immersed in Gomti river. Vajpayee had made Lucknow his home as he was elected MP from this Lok Sabha seat.
“We have asked our party offices across the country to organise programmes at the state level, district level and up to panchayat level to commemorate Vajpayee's death. All state capitals will have an all-party meeting; programmes are being prepared for immersion of ashes in nearly 100 cities,” BJP general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Bhupendra Yadav said.
Yadav said they have been getting requests from municipal corporations and panchayats for passing resolutions in Vajpayee's memory, for which party has provided them with the necessary material. All these programmes will be organised in the next 15 days.
