Flash floods and landslides triggered by torrential rains continue in several parts of Kerala with death toll rising to 324 on Friday. Over 2, 23,000 people have been shifted to 1,568 relief camps across the state so far.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reach the state late in the evening. He will review the flood-affected areas on Saturday.

The deadliest deluge in close to a century has dealt a body blow to the scenic state, wrecking its tourism industry, destroying standing crops in thousands of hectares and inflicting huge damage to infrastructure.

Hundreds of people, including women, children and the elderly trapped in places inaccessible by boats were winched up by defence helicopters and shifted to safety.

The southwest monsoon over rain-battered Kerala will bring in more heavy spells during the weekend in that state, besides Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, the regional weather office said.
