A team of Surat Police on Thursday visited Ahmedabad in connection with the rape complaint filed by a 21-year-old victim against BJP leader Jayanti Bhanushali.

The investigations went on even as the police served second summons to Bhanushali to appear before it. The summons was accepted by his brother as the BJP leader and former law maker has gone underground.

A few days ago, Bhanushali, hailing from Kutch, had resigned as the Gujarat BJP vice president after the rape victim had filed a complaint against him. In his letter to the state BJP president Jitu Waghani, Bhanushali had stated that the allegations were a “conspiracy” to ruin his political career.

The 21-year-old has claimed that she was subjected to rape by the accused. Bhanushali had promised her admission in a private college.

According to sources, the police visited the room of a 5-star hotel where a video allegedly featuring the victim along with the accused went viral.

Meanwhile, in an important development, one of the deputy police commssioners of police in Surat, Leena Patil, was transferred on Wednesday night. Patil's name figured in the list along with several other IPS officers, who were transferred.

Patil was the one who had recorded the victim's statement. It now remains to be seen who will handle the sensitive case which is considered as just the tip of an iceberg in political circles.
