On a day when the Congress and other opposition parties decided to submit notice for impeachment proceedings against Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra, the Supreme Court on Friday expressed its displeasure over the public discussion on impeachment of judges.

Terming it as unfortunate, a bench comprising Justices A.K. Sikri and Ashok Bhushan also sought assistance of Attorney General K.K. Venugopal to examine whether such practices could be restrained.

"We all are disturbed about it," said the apex court while hearing a plea which has also sought gag on media from carrying such discussions.

The apex court posted the case for hearing on May 7. It, however, refused to pass any order gagging the media, saying it would not do this without hearing the attorney general.

The opposition has been working on bringing various parties on board for a larger consensus on bringing the impeachment motion against the CJI. At a meeting on Friday at Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad's chamber in Parliament, the parties decided to submit notice for Misra's impeachment.

The opposition meeting came a day after the top court refused to order a probe into the death of CBI Judge B.H. Loya.
