The Central Board of Secondary Education has decided to conduct re-examination for Class 12 Economics and class 10 Mathematics following reports of alleged question paper leak. The board said the dates for the fresh examinations and other details would be hosted on the CBSE website within a week.
The move has come as a shocker to thousands of NRI students and parents, especially in the Gulf region, as it would spoil their holiday plans. Many of the parents complain that they suffer huge loss of money as they will now have to reschedule their journey by booking tickets at exorbitant rates.
Students who appeared for the class 10 Mathematics say they were relieved and in a celebration mood after finishing the exam which was relatively easy. Now the decision for re-examination has brought them a sort of mental agony.
“I really aced my maths examination paper and came out feeling so good from the examination hall as this was the last day of our examinations. It has been quite a stressful month. Now we learn we have to reappear. I don’t think the second time round I will do such a good job. Here in the UAE, no papers were leaked. So why should we suffer? This is so unjust,” a class 10 student told the Gulf News.
Across the Gulf region, A total of 22,542 students are appearing for the class 10 board examinations while 14,694 students have registered for class 12 examinations. In the UAE alone, nearly 8,474 students are appearing for class 10 exams and 2,713 students for class 12 papers. The board examinations started on March 5 and are to conclude on April 12.
The CBSE said in a statement on Wednesday: "Board has taken cognizance of certain happenings in the conduct of certain examinations as are being reported. With the view to uphold sanctity of board examinations and in the interest of fairness to students, the board has decided to re-conduct examinations in the following subjects."
The Delhi Police's crime branch has already begun investigating the alleged leak of question papers after registering two separate cases.
