People go through various skin routines and treatments for healthy skin that is clear of pimples and acne. While everyone's busy looking for ways to treat pimples, actress Tamannah Bhatia says she has her own hack to get rid of pimples, her spit.

In an interview with Lallantop, Tamannaah was asked about her pimple hack, to which she replied, "Spit".

"It works, but the morning spit, which is before brushing," she added.

She explained the hack, saying that when one wakes up, there are enough antibacterial properties in the spit. Using this spit helps in drying up the pimple, said Bhatia.

Netizens had sharp reactions towards her statement, with some criticising her for her views.

Gastroenterologist Dr Palaniappan Manickam, better known as Dr Pal on social media, shared his views on the viral hack. "If you love your skin, avoid this hack," he says, explaining that the hack is not useful in treating pimples.

He goes on to explain that, yes, saliva contains enzymes that can break down the bacterial cell wall. But acne is caused by gutibacteria and saliva is not effective against this particular bacteria. Another issue that he points out is that spit can cause infection and worsen the inflammation.

However, a study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology found that saliva shows effective anti-acne activity by inhibiting the growth and proliferation of acne-causing bacteria.
