Prime Video has officially renewed "Carrie" for a second season, just two weeks after the first season's premiere on October 7, 2026, much to the delight of the show's fans.

Created and developed by visionary horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan, the show updated the story for the digital age, addressing contemporary social ills that author Stephen King, whose debut novel the story is based on, didn't address when he wrote the 1974 book (which was also the basis for multiple film adaptations, including the most popular Brian De Palma film).

Season 2 will go beyond the book, since the Season 1 finale — spoilers follow — featured a massive twist where Carrie White (Summer H. Howell) survives the infamous prom disaster, following which she embarks on an adventure with Emaline (Thalia Dudek) as they flee her destroyed hometown after the carnage triggered by the antagonists' malicious intent at the prom. Season 2 is also expected to feature actress Kate Siegel, who appeared in the finale, in a lead role capacity.

Flanagan has teased that the show will delve deeper into the wider world of women possessing telekinetic and psychic abilities, and previously stated that he envisioned a three-season arc to explore his reimagined take on the story. Both Flanagan and King are returning as executive producers for the upcoming chapter.

Amazon MGM Studios has not yet announced an official release date for Season 2.

Meanwhile, Flanagan has a highly anticipated lineup of projects coming to theatres, starting with the newly released (on Oct. 23) "Clayface", which he only co-wrote, and a new reboot in the iconic "Exorcist" horror franchise, titled "The Exorcist: Martyrs".

"Clayface" is a body horror-based villain origin story in the DC Universe, while "The Exorcist: Martyrs" features Scarlett Johansson as a detective tracking a dark, generational evil.
