“Mambarakkal Ahmed Ali is not just a cameo. He is the catalyst in Khalifa’s story. It will become a storm when Lalettan does it,” Prithviraj said.
While Prithviraj plays Mambarakkal Aamir Ali and leads the first part of the story, Ahmed Ali’s actions are expected to set a much larger generational conflict in motion. His role will also help establish the story for the planned second part, "Khalifa: His Reign". The sequel is expected to focus more closely on the family’s violent underworld history, with Mohanlal taking a central role.
"Khalifa" is a Malayalam action-crime thriller directed by Vysakh and written by Jinu V. Abraham. The cast includes Prithviraj Sukumaran, Mohanlal, Malvika Sharma, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Indrans, Rajisha Vijayan, Krithi Shetty, Shammi Thilakan, Mohini and Sanju Sivaram.
The technical team includes co-director Suresh Divakar, music composer Jakes Bejoy, cinematographer Jomon T. John and editor Chaman Chakko. Action sequences are being handled by Yannick Ben, Chethan D’Souza and Phoenix Prabhu, adding to expectations surrounding the film’s scale and intensity.
The first official trailer will be out on August 16, informed the actor.
Meanwhile, Prithviraj, last seen in "I, Nobody", has the Hindi-language "Daayra" (with Kareena Kapoor) and SS Rajamouli's "Varanasi" in his upcoming line-up. He is also expected to appear in Prashanth Neel's "Salaar: Part 2" with Prabhas.
