After Riteish Deshmukh's "Raja Shivaji" rocked the Maharashtra box office by becoming the highest-grossing Marathi-language film of all time, dethroning "Sairat", now another film from the region is doing remarkably well in theatres.

The sequel to the 2015 film, "Deool Band 2", has registered a massive surge on Day 10, pulling in Rs 5 crore in net earnings, marking a 61.3% growth when compared to Day 9's Rs 3.10 crore net, as per Sacnilk data. With around 1,941 shows, the film netted Rs 38.30 crore, while the total gross stands at Rs 45.05 crore.

When compared to the original, the sequel has dramatically rewritten the game for this duology in just 10 days. The first film earned a lifetime gross of only Rs 20 crore.

While standard box office behaviour usually dictates a steep 50% to 60% drop on the first Monday following a big opening weekend, "Deool Band 2" is showing a phenomenal weekday hold.

"Deool Band 2" had a reported opening weekend gross of Rs 18.59 crore, matching almost the entire lifetime box office of the 2015 prequel in just four days. Following its first weekend, the sequel's earnings barely dropped between Monday (Rs 3.30 crore) and Wednesday (Rs 3.20 crore), indicating strong word-of-mouth.

The surge on Day 10  (61.3%) mirrors the trajectory of another Marathi hit "Baipan Bhari Deva", which famously experienced a massive weekend-two and weekend-three spike in earnings due to family audiences filling up afternoon and evening shows. That film earned a lifetime gross of roughly Rs 76.28 crore.

"Deool Band 2" has now outperformed Marathi films like "Thackeray" (31.6 crore), "Katyar Kaljat Ghusali" (35 crore), "Lai Bhaari" (37 crore), and "Pawankhind" (37.72 crore). It is now eyeing the 42 crore lifetime gross of "Natsamrat".
