Directed by RJ Balaji, Suriya's fantasy-action movie "Karuppu" has entered its third week with a bang, earning Rs 5.15 crore on its third Saturday (Day 16), from 3,292 shows. The cumulative domestic net has reached Rs 176.55 crore, and the India gross total is at Rs 204.21 crore. With a total overseas collection of Rs 77.75 crore so far, the global total has now reached the Rs 281.96 crore mark.

It saw a massive resurgence on its second weekend, pulling Rs 14.75 crore on Day 10. This is a colossal 58.5% leap from Day 15's Rs 3.25 crore, fueled by late-night occupancies touching 47.54% in Tamil Nadu.

Driven by exceptional word-of-mouth for the Suriya and Trisha Krishnan mythological entertainer, its day-by-day trajectory shows unprecedented stability, unlike some of the other recent star-driven vehicles (including Suriya's last releases), which relied heavily on front-loaded earnings but fizzled out after a couple of weeks.

It goes without saying that "Karuppu" has completely rewritten Suriya's box office equation, giving him his first-ever Rs 150+ crore grosser domestically and his career's highest-grossing film. It has officially become the 22nd film in Tamil cinema history to cross the Rs 100 crore gross mark within Tamil Nadu alone, ending a severe drought in the box office that lasted nearly a year.

Most major Tamil blockbusters suffer sharp 50%–60% drops on their first Monday. "Karuppu", however, broke this cycle through strong family audience turnouts. And in its second week, rather than crashing, it contributed a rock-solid Rs 54.30 crore gross.
