Fans of ‘The Simpsons’ have something new to look forward to this summer. Disney+ has announced three new exclusive episodes of the long-running animated series, continuing its expansion of original Simpsons content beyond the main television show.
The new lineup follows the show's recent milestone of reaching its 800th episode. It includes the double-length special “Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition” on June 17, followed by “Simpsley” on July 3 and “Yellow Mirror” on August 26.
The first release, “Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition,” centres on Homer and Marge after a date night goes wrong when Marge discovers that Homer left the children unsupervised with only a doorbell camera watching over them. Frustrated with her husband, Marge begins imagining alternate versions of Homer in a trilogy of fantasy stories. The episode features actress Betty Gilpin along with musical guests Laufey and Tegan and Sara.
The second episode, “Simpsley”, takes the family into a noir-inspired story set in Italy. Marge Bouvier, a penniless con artist, is sent to convince a wealthy Seymour Skinner to return home, but she soon finds herself drawn to his luxurious lifestyle. Complications arise when she encounters Homer Simpsley, a troublesome houseguest whose presence threatens to derail everything. Disney+ describes the episode as a tale filled with “lies, lust and Italian lira”.
Perhaps the most talked-about episode of the trio is “Yellow Mirror”, which parodies the popular anthology series “Black Mirror”. According to Disney+, the episode features two dark and unusual stories. In one, a defective lamp reveals a heartbreaking truth about what Homer believes is reality. In the other, an AI-powered tablet befriends and begins controlling Maggie Simpson. Together, the stories offer a satirical take on technology, artificial intelligence and modern digital life.
The new episodes continue Disney+’s growing collection of exclusive Simpsons specials, following previous releases including “O C’Mon All Ye Faithful,” “The Past and the Furious”, and “Yellow Planet.”
While the franchise continues to expand, speculation about the future of ‘The Simpsons’ has also persisted. Earlier this year, showrunner Matt Selman dismissed suggestions that a future film or episode could serve as the show's definitive farewell.
“We did an episode about a year-and-a-half ago that was like a parody of the series finale,” Selman told TheWrap. “We jammed every possible series finale concept into one show, so that was sort of my way of saying we’re never going to do a series finale.”
He added that if the series ever does come to an end, it would likely avoid a traditional farewell. “If the show ever did end, there’s no finale; it would just be a regular episode that has the family in it.”
With new stories ranging from relationship comedy to AI satire, Disney+ is giving fans another reason to return to Springfield this summer.
