Apple TV announces 'Margo's Got Money Troubles' Season 2 ahead of Season 1 finale premiere date

Starring Elle Fanning, Nicole Kidman, Michelle Pfeiffer, Nick Offerman, and Thaddea Graham, the show has met with positive critical and audience appreciation for its authentic portrayal of motherhood-related challenges

The season finale of Apple TV's "Margo's Got Money Troubles" is just four days away. Ahead of its streaming on May 20, 2026 (Wednesday), it has become clear that the show will go beyond one season. Apple TV has officially announced a second season.

Headlined and executive produced by Elle Fanning, the show was created by David E. Kelley. An adaptation of the critically acclaimed 2024 novel of the same name by Rufi Thorpe, "Margo's Got Money Troubles" premiered on April 15.

In an official Apple TV statement, Fanning said: “When I first read Rufi’s stunning story, it felt wholly original and most importantly human, and then with David’s writing, along with our epic cast of heart-wrenching performances, it truly felt like we had something special. Having the opportunity to bring more of Margo’s troubles, creativity, fearless spirit, and authenticity to audiences with a second season makes me incredibly happy and excited. I can promise everyone they’re in for a wild, messy and beautiful ride.”

Elle Fanning is joined in the cast by other acclaimed names, such as Nicole Kidman, Michelle Pfeiffer, Nick Offerman, and Thaddea Graham, among others.

The story follows 20-year-old Margo, an aspiring writer and junior college student, whose life gets very complicated after an affair with her English professor leaves her pregnant and unemployed. Facing eviction and mounting bills,  not to mention a newborn baby, she decides to set up an OnlyFans account as a creative experiment to secure financial survival.

Offerman plays Margo's estranged father, an ex-pro wrestler and recovering addict, who moves in and uses wrestling character-building logic to help her craft a mega-viral online persona. Pfeiffer is Margo's eccentric, narcissistic mother and former Hooters waitress. Kidman plays a sharp, retired wrestler-turned-lawyer who steps in to help manage certain legal complications and chaotic family situations.

The audience and critical response to "Margo's Got Money Troubles" have been overwhelmingly positive so far, earning high praise for its raw, unfiltered look at early motherhood. Rotten Tomatoes has registered a 97% based on general critics' feedback.

Viewers on Reddit have heavily praised the show for delivering one of the most accurate, empathetic, unglamorous depictions of motherhood-related struggles, with Fanning’s nuanced portrayal of Margo already generating early Emmy awards buzz, aside from Pfeiffer’s performance being widely considered a scene-stealer.

For Kelley, “Margo’s Got Money Troubles" was an "irresistible proposition" right from the beginning. I fell in love with Rufi’s world and unpredictable characters, and it’s been rewarding to see audiences embrace this series. We can’t wait to continue this story with our partners at Apple and A24.”

A24 is producing “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” for Apple TV. For the second season, Eva Anderson will serve as co-showrunner with Kelley.
