In a tragic incident, a 28-year-old crew member died on the set of Rajnikanth’s upcoming film Jailer 2.
The man was reportedly engaged in electrical work on the location at a private film studio when he was electrocuted.
Kartikeyan, who hails from Salem, was working at the set near Paniyur on Chennai’s East Coast road in the afternoon on Thursday. He reportedly came into contact with a live wire while erecting a house-like set as part of his work. Kartikeyan was reportedly an engineering graduate, reports say. He had moved to Chennai to work in cinema and was a part of the art direction and electrical team.
The Kanathur police, who rushed to the spot, sent the body to the a government hospital for a post-mortem, The Indian Express reported.
An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to his death.
The day’s shoot was subsequently cancelled.
The incident occurred just a week after the production company Sun Pictures announced that the film had wrapped filming. The company had also shared pictures of actor Rajnikanth and director Nelson cutting a cake to celebrate.
The release date of the film was originally scheduled for June 12, 2026. However, after another setback that involved an unlawful leaks incident casued the film's release to be pushed to September 4.
The highly anticipated film Jailer 2 is a sequel to the blockbuster film Jailer.
The film will see the return of Ramya Krishnan as Muthuvel Pandian’s wife and Mirnaa as his daughter-in-law. The film’s music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander and the cast includes Ramya Krishnan, Shivarajkumar, Mohanlal, and Yogi Babu.
