A 'Game of Thrones' movie is coming from the man behind two of the best TV shows

The feature-length project is said to take its inspiration heavily from George R. R. Martin's book 'Fire & Blood' from the world of 'A Song of Ice and Fire'

"Game of Thrones" will officially move into the feature-length space. Warner Bros. has announced a movie from the GoT world, with the title "Game of Thrones: Aegon's Conquest". As of now, it's just the working title, and the team could go for a different title later.

The project, which will be released on the big screen, was presented at the 2026 CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

The material is said to take its inspiration heavily from George R. R. Martin's book 'Fire & Blood' from the world of 'A Song of Ice and Fire'.

The official logline reveals that the protagonist of this story is the dragon-riding ruler Aegon I Targaryen, who, with help from his two sister-wives and queens, Visenya and Rhaenys, managed to successfully unite the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros under a single banner and used the melted swords of his vanquished enemies to forge the Iron Throne.

There is no director attached yet, but the show will be developed by writer Beau Willimon, known for his work on the acclaimed shows "House of Cards" and "Andor (Star Wars)". Willimon has some experience in period dramas, having written the script for the 2018 film "Mary Queen of Scots".

"Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest" is part of the growing list of spin-offs from the universe that also comprises "House of the Dragon" and "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms". The latter was met with near-unanimous critical and audience acclaim, unlike the former.

Meanwhile, Bantam Books has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the rumour about GRR Martin finishing and releasing 'The Winds of Winter', his long-awaited sixth book in 'A Song of Ice and Fire'.
