Don Lee completes filming for Korean 'Extraction' spin-off 'Tygo'

"Extraction: Tygo" will follow the template of the Chris Hemsworth original and will see Don Lee playing a mercenary on a mission to save a kidnapped friend. However, there are no other connections to the original franchise

We had reported last year that Korean action superstar Don Lee (Ma Dong-seok) is headlining "Extraction: Tygo", the Korean spinoff of the "Extraction" films starring Chris Hemsworth. Lee has shared that he has completed filming.

Aside from thematic similarities, "Extraction: Tygo" will have no links to the stories of the original films.

The most exciting aspect is that it sees Don Lee reuniting with director Lee Sang-yong, who directed the actor in the second and third films from "The Roundup" series of police thrillers — "The Roundup" and "The Roundup: No Way Out" — which proved to be an immensely successful starring vehicle for the former.

Cha Woo-jin, who wrote "The Roundup: No Way Out", also scripted "Extraction: Tygo".

As for the story, "Extraction: Tygo" will follow the template of the original and will see Don Lee playing a mercenary on a mission to save a kidnapped friend. Lee Jin-wook and Chosun Biz are Lee's co-stars.

Directed by stunt choreographer-turned-director Sam Hargrave, the original "Extraction" franchise, a direct-to-Netflix release, began in 2020, followed by the sequel in 2023. A third film is currently in development.

Ma Dong-seok's popular action credits include: "Train to Busan", "Derailed", "The Roundup" police action movie series, "The Gangster, the Cop & the Devil", "Unstoppable", and "Badland Hunters". He also appeared in Marvel's "The Eternals" as the character Gilgamesh. It was his Hollywood debut.

Don Lee recently appeared in the Korean superhero series "Twelve". A fifth "Roundup" film is reportedly in the works.

There are also unconfirmed reports that Lee is making his Indian cinema debut with Sandeep Reddy Vanga's "Spirit", opposite Prabhas. However, the team hasn't yet made anything official.
