Ryan Gosling's much-anticipated sci-fi adventure "Project Hail Mary" has an official release date for Indian audiences. Sony Pictures India has confirmed that the big-scale epic, which was originally supposed to release in the country on March 20, will now arrive on March 26, in all formats including IMAX — in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Adapted from Andy Weir's bestselling novel of the same name, it sees the "Drive" star play a regular, everyday teacher, who suddenly finds himself assigned to a risky space mission with consequences for the world.

“It’s an insanely ambitious story that’s massive in scope, and it seemed really hard to make, and that’s kind of our bag ... This is why we go to the movies. And I’m not just saying it because I’m in it. I’m also saying it because I’m a producer on the film," Gosling said about the film, at a CinemaCon event in Vegas, last year.

The movie, directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord ("Spider-Man-Into the Spider-Verse"), also features "Anatomy of a Fall" fame Sandra Hüller as a government agent, persuading Gosling to undertake a bleak misssion to save a dying Earth, in a manner reminiscent of Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar".

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are also the minds behind beloved classics like the "Jump Street" franchise, and "The LEGO Movie".

Drew Goddard, who penned the film adaptation of Andy Weir’s "The Martian", (starring Matt Damon), wrote the script. The Ridley Scott film went on to become a box office hit, grabbing seven Oscar nominations as well.

A three-time Oscar nominee, Ryan Gosling was last seen in "The Fall Guy", alongside Emily Blunt, and 'Barbie', alongside Margot Robbie — both of which performed quite well at the box office.
