Nawazuddin Siddiqui confirmed to star in 'Tumbbad' sequel in major role

The "Tumbbad" sequel has just got more exciting. Nawazuddin Siddiqui has confirmed his involvement in the much-anticipated follow-up 2018 film "Tumbbad". Although his character details are still unknown, the filmmakers have hinted that he will play an important role in the story.

The film is being produced by Sohum Shah and Pen Studios. It's not yet known if Rahi Anil Barve would be back in the director's chair. Barve's recent theatrical release was "Mayasabha".

Siddiqui expressed his excitement about being part of the project, saying, "I’ve always admired 'Tumbbad' for its unique storytelling and atmosphere. When Sohum shared his vision for the sequel, I liked the story and decided to join the team. The character I’ll be playing is very layered, and I’m excited to dive into this fascinating world with such a passionate team."

Sohum Shah, who starred in and produced the first film, shared his thoughts on Siddiqui's casting. He said, "It’s incredibly exciting for us to have Nawaz Sir on board for Tumbbad 2. He brings unmatched intensity and authenticity to his roles. His character will play a key role in expanding the emotional and psychological depth of the sequel."

"Tumbbad 2" was announced in late 2024, a day after the first movie was re-released in theatres, to much success, compared to the lukewarm box-office reception it received in 2018, despite the high critical acclaim. Directed by Rahi Anil Barve, the atmospheric horror-drama was well received by critics when it released six years ago. 

Shah reassured fans that "Tumbbad 2" would delve deeper into the theme of greed. "The journey of 'Tumbbad' has been special to us, and the love it continues to receive is overwhelming. This reinforces our belief that content is the most important thing," he said then. "With 'Tumbbad 2', we aim to take the cinematic experience even further, exploring new twists and intensifying the story of what happens when greed has no limits."

Set in a village in Maharashtra, "Tumbbad" follows Vinayak Rao (played by Shah) as he becomes consumed by greed while searching for a mythical treasure protected by the evil entity Hastar. The sequel promises to expand on this dark and mysterious world, with a gripping story that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats.

The re-release of "Tumbbad" in theatres has been well received by fans, who are excited for the continuation of this unique tale.
