After doing its run on the festival circuit, Anurag Kashyap's new film with Bobby Deol, titled "Bandar" (aka 'Monkey in a Cage'), has an official release date. The filmmaker has announced that the crime drama will arrive in theatres on May 22, 2026.

"Bandar", which sees Kashyap collaborating for the first time with Bobby Deol, was screened in the Special Presentation category in the upcoming edition of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

While no plot details have been revealed yet, the makers recently teased that the film is based on true events.

It is written by Abhishek Banerjee and Sudip Sharma, who have collaborated on "Paatal Lok". Sudip Sharma is also the creator of both seasons of Netflix's crime series "Kohrra".

The other cast members include Sanya Malhotra, Raj B Shetty, Jitendra Joshi, Sapna Pabbi, Indrajith Sukumaran, Riddhi Sen, and Nagesh Bhosle.

Actor-producer Nikhil Dwivedi is producing "Bandar" under the banner Saffron Magicworks, which also produced Vikramaditya Motwane's last film "CTRL", starring Ananya Panday.

The thought of Bobby Deol teaming up with Anurag Kashyap has stirred up a significant amount of chatter and excitement on social media, considering how the former has been lately seen in serious, performance-oriented roles in films such as "Class of '83", "Love Hostel" and "Animal".

Kashyap's recent releases include the two-part "Nishaanchi" (streaming on Prime Video) and "Kennedy" (on Zee5).
