Will legal hurdles clear for a Friday release? Fate of Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan' to be decided on Jan 27

The Madras High Court is likely to pronounce judgment over the 'Jana Nayagan' release on January 27. If the high court ruled in favour of Vijay, it could clear the way for the theatrical release of the much-awaited film next Friday.

According to The Hindu, Madras High Court Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G. Arul Murugan will pronounce verdict over the Central Board of Film Certification's (CBFC) plea challenging the release of the film on January 27. 

Earlier, a single-judge bench led by Justice P.T. Asha had ruled in favour of KVN Productions, producers of Jana Nayagan and had cleared CBFC certification for the release of the film. However, the film certification body immediately approached a two-judge bench of the high court and sought a stay against the release of the film. 

Originally slated for release on January 9, Vijay's Jana Nayagan got embroiled in legal troubles after the CBFC withheld its certificate, allegedly following a complaint from the examining committee. The film's makers said that though they were granted U/A certificate initially, it was withheld, and the film has reportedly been referred to a revising committee for review.

Though the makers approached the Supreme Court, it redirected the producers to approach the high court for relief. 

Said to Vijay's last film, the actor's fans allege politicial vendetta as the reason for blocking the film's release. Actor Vijay recently launched its political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and is set to contest the upcoming assembly polls. The actor-politician identifies the Bharatiya Janata Party as his ideological enemy.
