After a strong theatrical comeback with Sarvam Maya, Nivin Pauly is set to release his next, Baby Girl, which hits theatres on January 23.

The makers have released the trailer, which promises a suitably dark thriller. Baby Girl is the second feature of director Arun Varma, who made his directorial debut with the hit Biju Menon-Suresh Gopi thriller Garudan.

Except for conveying the overall tone of the film, the trailer plays it smart, without revealing any spoilers. It reveals that the film will be emotionally charged, revolving around a missing baby. Nivin Pauly plays a hospital attendant with certain mysteries surrounding his character. It is hinted that he is not playing a conventional hero and that there could be more to his character than what was revealed in the footage.

Abhimanyu Thilakan ("Marco") plays a police officer seeking the whereabouts of Nivin's character after he seemingly goes on the run. Lijimol Jose (Maheshinte Prathikaram, Jai Bhim) plays a woman who is connected to Nivin's character in some way. Other major cast members include Sangeeth Prathap ("Premalu"), Aditi Ravi, Aju Varghese, and Tanvi Ram, among others.

The film has a screenplay by acclaimed writing duo Bobby and Sanjay ("Traffic", "Uyare"). Often associated with delivering some of Malayalam cinema's most acclaimed dramas and thrillers, Bobby and Sanjay teaming with a young filmmaker with a solid debut has amped up the excitement factor.

Director of photography is Faiz Siddik ("Operation Java"), with editing by Shyjith Kumaran. Sam CS is the composer.
