Adivi Sesh's 'Dacoit' to feature THIS iconic 90s Bollywood song: 'I danced to it in my school days'

Sesh, who also co-wrote the film, explains the choice is driven by nostalgia, recalling how he danced to the track in a school performance. He clarifies it's a personal homage rather than a gimmick, meant to evoke a specific feeling

Those who grew up in the 90s should be pleased to know that actor Adivi Sesh's upcoming Telugu-Hindi bilingual feature Dacoit, co-starring Mrunal Thakur, will feature an iconic Bollywood song from that era. The track is "Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast" from Mohra, centred on Akshay Kumar, Raveena Tandon, and Suniel Shetty.

The intention behind incorporating the song? Pure nostalgia.

In an official statement, the actor, who co-wrote the script with director Shaneil Deo, said: "Some songs stay with you forever, and 'Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast' is one of those songs for me. Growing up in the 90s, this track was everywhere, and I absolutely loved it. It was actually part of the first dance performance I ever did on a school stage, in a medley of songs, and that moment is still very vivid in my memory."

Sesh clarified that the song's inclusion is not intended as a gimmick, but to evoke a certain mood. "When we were working on the film, I felt an instinctive pull to bring this song in - not as a gimmick, but as a feeling. Using it as one of the songs in the film was my way of tipping my hat to that younger version of myself who fell in love with music, performance, and the joy of entertaining people."

In the pursuit of doing the homage the right way, Sesh ensured he acquired the rights in the proper way because "it's a small, personal memory woven into a much larger film, and I hope audiences feel that sense of nostalgia and energy when they hear it."

A vengeance saga, Dacoit also features Anurag Kashyap in an integral role. The film is slated for release on March 19. It is produced by Supriya Yarlagadda, co-produced by Suniel Narang, and presented by Annapurna Studios.
