Four days remain for the release of Vijay's farewell film Jana Nayagan directed by H Vinoth. The advance booking of the film has shown tremendous trends worldwide even with the core market Tamil Nadu yet to open bookings fully. So far, the film has breached Rs 34 crore globally in pre-sales for the first day and is set for a bare minimum of Rs 100 crore on release day.
However, there is some bad news looming for Vijay and his fans. The film, which was viewed by the Censor Board on December 19, is yet to get its censor certificate. There weren't many corrections recommended by the Censor Board and ideally, the film should have obtained its certificate by now as the revised version was already sent to the committee.
Jana Nayagan is set to get U/A certificate but so far, there is no update on when the producers will get it. There is also no information on why this delay is happening. If this delay continues, the film will have to be postponed from January 9. According to the regulations, Jana Nayagan will have to get its censor certificate by 5 pm on January 8, if it wants a release on January 9.
Three days still remain for the censor certificae deadline to end, so it isn't all dark out there for Vijay's camp. However, the political flavour around the this episode is hard to overlook. Earlier in the day, theatre owners in Tamil Nadu did confirm that advance bookings hadn't opened yet but it didn't have anything to do with the censoring issue. That, though, is another matter altogether.
Even as the theatre owners and distributors battle to agree on a mutually beneficial sharing percentage, Jana Nayagan's release date in itself appears to be in jeopardy for now. There were reports that the certificate would be obtained by the end of Monday (January 5) but that doesn't seem to be happening.

Will the Vijay and the Jana Nayagan producers go to court if the delay continues? There is a possibility but all this will only ensure in the film's postponement, as further delays would then be on the way. Sources from the industry suggest that some clarity on the censor certificate is expected on Tuesday (January 6).
