The overseas pre-sales of 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Jana Nayagan clocked $2.12 million (roughly ₹19 crore), while the domestic bookings touched ₹6 crore on Sunday. Interestingly, the advance booking collection so far has not included Tamil Nadu, where the superstar's "final" film is yet to open its advance bookings.
Theatres in Tamil Nadu are yet to open ticket sales for Jana Nayagan as the H. Vinoth directorial is still awaiting its CBFC censor certificate. There is panic among theatre owners, but they have decided to collectively hold back bookings until the film receives official certification, Sacnilk said in a report. The agenda behind the decision is to avoid last-minute changes or scheduling issues with the much-anticipated action drama, the report pointed out.
"As per industry reports, the CBFC is said to have suggested a few minor changes, including cuts and dialogue modifications. Until these are addressed and the censor certificate is issued, Tamil Nadu exhibitors are choosing to wait before opening bookings," a Sacnilk report said on Monday morning.
Jana Nayagan is slated to release on Friday, 9 January, as a Pongal release. It crossed ₹25 crore in pre-sales globally for the opening day alone. Generally, big films open their advance bookings at least seven days before the release date, as this gives enough time for momentum and ticket sales to build. The Week had earlier reported that Jana Nayagan and Sivakarthikeyan's Parasakthi would be released within a day of each other (9 January and 10 January) as Pongal releases.
