Some feathers may have been ruffled when it was announced that Tamil superstar Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan' and actor Sivakarthikeyan's 'Parasakthi' would be released within a day of each other (Jan 9 and Jan 10) as Pongal releases. At a pre-release event, Sivakarthikeyan offered clarification about this and requested people not to pay heed to such concerns, and instead celebrate both releases.

According to Sivakarthikeyan, he was shocked after realising that both movies were scheduled for the same release window. Parasakthi was earlier planned as a Diwali release, but the team postponed it since Jana Nayagan was expected to release it at the same time. Jana Nayagan was later shifted to a Pongal release. Since word was sent to every investor that a January release is locked, there was no option to shift it to a later date, which was April. However, since Tamil Nadu assembly elections are slated to occur at that time, it wouldn't be practical.

Sivakarthikeyan added that he also called Vijay's manager to seek a solution. When the manager didn't see any issue with the two movies releasing together, Sivakarthikeyan said, “You might not see a problem, but I do. Since Jana Nayagan is being promoted as Vijay sir’s last film, could you ask sir about it once?" The response from Vijay, however, was positive.

“The manager informed me that since it's Pongal, Vijay sir believes both films have enough space to run and won't affect each other at the box office," said Sivakarthikeyan, who requested the public to "celebrate Jana Nayakan on Jan. 9 — the final film of the man who have been entertaining us for the last 33 years — and Parashakti on Jan. 10."

"Let this Pongal be Annan Thambi Pongal," added Sivakarthikeyan, who appeared in a cameo in Vijay's previous film G.O.A.T.
