The beloved Percy Jackson book series, written by Rick Riordan, is ready to come back to life with the latest season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The show’s season 2 will premiere on December 10.

The premiere will comprise two episodes, after which one episode will be released weekly every Wednesday. The season is set to have a total of eight episodes. Disney+ and Hulu will continue to stream the show.

The focus of this season of the Disney+ Original series is the second part of the book series, ‘The Sea of Monsters’. During a special world premiere event held by Disney at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, the guests representing the new season came on an ocean-blue carpet along with a large tentacle, with the whole theme resembling an underwater kingdom. This was done to capture the essence of ‘The Sea of Monsters’.

The trailer of the new season was released on November 6. As per Disney, it garnered over 135 million views across YouTube, X, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok during its first 10 days—a 60% increase in comparison to the first season’s trailer, which had around 84 million views in 10 days.

In this season, Percy Jackson goes on a journey into the Sea of Monsters to save his friend Grover. Since Camp Half-Blood’s protective border is weakened, he also has to find the legendary Golden Fleece to save the camp. Apart from Annabeth and Clarisse, Percy also has his newly found cyclops half-brother, Tyson, to help him succeed his high-stakes mission. The season focuses on what it means to be a hero. Percy’s expanding circle of allies encounters quandaries regarding identity and loyalty.

The stars of the season include Walker Scobell, Aryan Simhadi, Leah Sava Jeffries, Dior Goodjohn, and Charlie Bushnell. Notable guest stars include Jason Mantzoukas, Glynn Turman, and Timothy Simons.

The author of the book series, Rick Riordan, along with Jonathan E. Steinberg, created the new season, with the executive producers consisting of Rebecca Riordan, Dan Shotz, Craig Silverstein, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, Bert Salke, D.J. Goldberg, James Bonin, Albert Kim, Jim Rowe, Sarah Watson, and Jason Ensler.

On December 10, the premiere day, Disney will also launch new episodes of the official Percy Jackson and the Olympians podcast to showcase the series’ behind-the-scenes. The series has already been renewed for Season 3, which is currently in production in Vancouver.

The first season of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV series was released in 2023. The Rick Riordan book series also spawned two movies: Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief in 2010 and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters in 2013.
