Aanand L Rai's latest directorial Tere Ishk Mein, starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon in lead roles, has taken a superb opening at the domestic box office in India. Aided by strong promos and appealing music from AR Rahman, the film already had impressive advance booking heading into the first day.
Tere Ishk Mein took a decent start in the morning shows by registering 15 percent occupancy on an average across India. This figure jumped to 20 percent in the matinee shows and the occupancy levels should only get better in the evening with the weekend coming up. As per early estimates, the film is set to zoom past Rs 10 crore nett in India and is looking at around Rs 17-18 crore gross on its opening day across both versions, Hindi and Tamil.
The opening of the film is excellent, considering that Dhanush isn't a certified superstar in Bollywood, nor is Kriti Sanon popular in terms of box office clout. However, the fact that Dhanush's Hindi films have a good fan following has helped, especially his films with Aanand L Rai with Raanjhanaa being the most iconic of them.

Initial reports to the film are mixed and the promos did suggest that the film could have polarised opinions from the public. It is too early to judge the general feedback as the picture could change from the evening shows onwards. We would have to wait till the first weekend is over to get a hint of the word-of-mouth.
Raanjhanaa ended with Rs 61 crore nett in India and the initial target for Tere Ishk Mein will be to cross that mark. It will, however, need close to Rs 100 crore nett, to be a safe venture for its producers.
