James Gunn's Superman is finally set to land on the Indian streaming space. JioHotstar has announced that the David Corenswet-fronted superhero reboot will begin streaming on the platform from December 11, exactly five months after its Indian theatrical release (July 11).
In its review of the film, THE WEEK praised the performances of the lead cast members. "David Corenswet's convincingly human portrayal of Clark Kent and the nature of his association with all the characters who come into contact with him. The Clark Kent-Lois Lane dynamic is the most impressive," it said. "Lois is already aware of his true identity, and Rachel Brosnahan completely embodies the part of the driven journalist who doesn't spare even her lover from the challenging questions. Despite all their verbal sparring, Corenswet and Brosnahan play Clark and Lois as the perfect couple, drawing comparisons to the portrayal of the same characters by Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder in the very first Superman movie, the 1978 version directed by Richard Donner."
Starring Nicholas Hoult as principal antagonist Lex Luthor, Superman was written and directed by James Gunn, who has previously directed comic book films like the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, The Suicide Squad and the HBO Max series Peacemaker (Season 1 and 2). The movie also features several other characters including Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi) and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced).
The reboot is a straightforward Superman story and ditches the origin story format of Zack Snyder's version.
Gunn has already announced the sequel 'Man of Tomorrow', which is expected to have Clark Kent and Lex Luthor in an uneasy alliance to deal with a common threat. Gunn recently shared an update with an illustration of Luthor posing in his Warsuit alongside Superman.
